Intake / Evaluation 101

What to Expect During Your 50-Minute Intake/Evaluation Appointment

During the evaluation, I will ask detailed questions to understand your mental health concerns, symptoms, and goals for treatment. We’ll explore your personal and medical history, including any past treatments, medications, and family history. Additionally, we’ll discuss social and lifestyle factors, such as relationships, work, and daily habits, that may impact your mental health.

Loved ones are welcome as long as you feel comfortable talking openly in front of them.

This session is also a collaborative process. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, share your expectations, and express any concerns you may have about treatment.

We’ll discuss options for care and outline the next steps tailored to your needs. Each treatment plan is individualized, and medication will be recommended only when clinically indicated.

By the end of the intake evaluation, you should feel a sense of clarity and direction.

Caveats

If we are not able to complete the evaluation within the first appointment, we will need a follow-up, usually scheduled within one week of the initial appointment.

If a diagnosis is unclear, I will ask to speak with your therapist or a loved one. I will speak with them only if you’re comfortable with it.
